Mionetto - Italy's Premier Prosecco
Being in the “bubbly” business is very sweet these days, especially when your bubbly is Prosecco, the most popular sparkling wine on wine lists from coast to coast. Add to that being picked the 2011 “Importer of the Year” by Wine Enthusiast Magazine and we’re talking one happening wine company. And that’s exactly what Mionetto is; a very successful, very happy wine company. And they have a lot of experience as well. Mionetto has been producing Prosecco for 120 years.
Mionetto calls the small Italian village of Valdobbiadene, which is just north of Venice, home. The winery was founded by Francesco Mionetto back in 1887 when he first bottled and sold his wines to local townsfolk. And over the years it continued to grow and really established itself once Francesco’s brothers joined him, but as fate would have it, the family business hit a hurdle. All three Mionetto brothers were called to serve during World War I and the winery, left alone, did not fare well. The winery was heavily damaged and fell into disrepair after both world wars. But in 1961, Francesco’s grandsons brought began the slow process of bringing life back to the Mionetto winery. And you might say that the Modern day Mionetto was born in 1982. This was the year that the Mionetto family changed things up when they switched their fermentation process to the Charmat method, a much better way to preserve Prosecco.
No doubt all Prosecco’s are really enjoying their fifteen minutes, but with a portfolio of Prosecco’s, Mionetto is poised to control this very popular wine category. The wines are loaded with character, flavor and everything you would expect from a Prosecco from the first sip to the last. Not surprisingly, Mionetto enjoys being Italy’s premier Prosecco and is now a household name from Venice to Virginia.
