When John and Barbara Drady founded Sonoma Coast Vineyards in 2001, they did so because of their affinity for the Pacific Ocean and their passion for Pinot Noir. They knew about the rigorous challenges of growing fruit in this dramatically cold environment on the far western reaches of Sonoma County, but they decided it was a risk worth taking. And they were right.
The challenges of the climate, moisture, and terroir have produced wines with fully ripened fruit at lower brix, mature flavors and tannins that are very well balanced. Sonoma Coast Vineyards defines the Sonoma Coast. Prior to vineyards, the Sonoma Coast region had been historically used for cattle grazing, lumber and limited farming.
