Meerlust
Meerlust Estate has been part of the Myburgh family tradition for eight generations since 1757, when it was purchased by Johannes Albertus Myburgh. When Nicolas Myburgh took over the reigns in 1959, he began an extensive restoration program of the Cape Dutch style architectural structures on the Estate. The entire complex was declared a National Monument in July of 1987.

Today, the dedication to the art of fine winemaking continues under the guidance of Hannes Myburgh, Nicolas Myburgh’s son. Meerlust is situated 15 kilometers south of Stellenbosch, in the Eerste River Valley with the blue crescent of False Bay just 5 kilometers away.

Rubicon, the unique Bordeaux-wine blend of Meerlust, was released to international acclaim in 1980. Nicolas Myburgh, the owner at the time was looking for an appropriate name and believed he had reached the “point of no return” with this wine and could only go forward. The name Rubicon was chosen after the Rubicon stream in Italy which Julius Caesar crossed before his march on Rome in 49 B.C.
